Success in high performance athletics requires constant investment in people, facilities and programmes. Adamstown Athletic Club’s new equipment will help to keep competitors on their toes.
Working with high performance athletes requires investment in people, facilities and programmes. Without ongoing attention to each of these areas, athletes may lose their competitive edge.
Adamstown, Co. Wexford, has a proud tradition of athletics dating back to 1954, and has nurtured several high profile international athletes in race walking, the high jump and shot putt.
Key to the success of these athletes has been a continuous investment in quality equipment and facilities, including a tartan track and throws area. With this in mind, in 2015 the club sought to upgrade a range of outdoor equipment including an International Olympic landing pit, crossbars, javelins, and a discus cage.
The club’s application to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s Sports Capital programme was successful, however the terms of the grant required Adamstown Athletic club to pay for the equipment before they could claim the grant. Clann Credo was keen to foster the athletic potential across a wide range of disciplines and provided the bridging finance necessary for the club to access their allocated grant.
