Drogheda Youth Development is a voluntary and community based project which has continued to be innovative in its approach to overcoming obstacles. Established in 1993, they work to provide services and supports to all young people in Drogheda and its hinterland.
The group were badly in need of an updated premises to meet their needs. They had a simple and ambitious plan: to develop a new integrated Youth Information and Health Service incorporating a Youth Café at the Carnegie library building in Drogheda.
This new centre opened in summer 2013. The young people of Drogheda were overjoyed to finally have a one-stop youth service to help them with their educational, career, financial, personal safety, physical and mental health challenges and so much more. In addition they can enjoy a safe drink and drug free space to meet friends, grab a bite to eat, take part in art, music or activity classes, and access computers, play games or just chill out and watch a match.
In order to secure loan finance the project organisers approached Clann Credo to help make this ambitious concept a reality. In their assessment Clann Credo recognised the social impact this project would have on the town, along with the work the youth development was able to accomplish despite their outdated facilities.
Clann Credo was delighted to be involved in this project as the development of the centre provides the young people of the area with a critical amenity and service that will have far reaching social impacts.
