Community loan for Galway Traveller Movement

It would be hard to overestimate or even exaggerate the impact of the Galway Traveller Movement on the lives of both Traveller and settled alike over the last 25 years.

Established as a unique partnership between Travellers and members of the settled community in 1994, it has over those years worked ceaselessly to promote equality and better the lives of Travellers in the region.

With offices in Galway and Loughrea, the organisation delivers an all-embracing range of services and programmes to the Traveller community in terms of health, education, human rights and social justice, accommodation and enterprise development.

In addition, it provides invaluable supports for Travellers in the workplace while a number of key projects in recycling and insulation help create direct employment for the Traveller community.

With financial support from Clann Credo, the organisation also successfully completed a major retrofitting programme of 160 homes and premises in the Connemara Gaeltacht, under the auspices of the SEAI’s Better Energy Communities scheme.
