Built for your first steps

Across Ireland, individuals and groups are starting new community initiatives to support one another, build connections and improve local life. Driven by commitment and local insight, they are ready to move. What they often don’t have yet is years of financial records or a long credit history. Other lenders see that as risk. We see potential. The Acorn Loan is designed for exactly this moment, when your idea is ready and the right finance will help it take root.

“Clann Credo backed us at a stage when we had ambition and a plan but not years of accounts to show for it. That trust means everything.”

Mark Bolger, Director, Chronic Health Advocate

The Acorn Loans in action

Café Donate, Mountrath, Co. Laois

Café Donate is a social enterprise built on connection, inclusion and opportunity. It offers a warm welcome to everyone, and hands-on barista training and accredited skills to people moving towards employment. Every euro it earns is reinvested in the community.

A LEADER grant through Laois Partnership funded the renovation, but like most grants it paid retrospectively. An Acorn Bridging Loan, with no personal guarantees, let the work start immediately. A further €14,000 Acorn Term Loan covered staff costs, stock and utilities as the café opened.

The impact: over 30,000 visitors in year one, more than ten staff and a year-round community hub for Mountrath.

“We didn’t want a loan that felt like a loan, we wanted a partner who understood what we’re trying to do here. Clann Credo did. They bridged the grant so we could keep going without ever closing the door on the people who rely on this place.”

Geraldine Moore, committee member, Café Donate

Chronic Health Advocate, Dunhill, Co. Waterford

Founded in March 2024, Chronic Health Advocate supports families living with chronic, complex or life-altering illness. Its Emotional Battery Recharger is a specially fitted mobile unit that brings therapeutic support directly to family carers and healthcare workers.

A €15,000 Acorn Term Loan financed the mobile unit and its fit-out. In late 2025, Chronic Health Advocate was named Social Enterprise of the Year at the Waterford PPN Awards.

The Acorn Loans and the Dynamic Funding Model

Even small projects are strongest when they draw on more than one source of funding. Our Dynamic Funding Model brings together grant aid, impact lending, philanthropy and earned income.

Chronic Health Advocate shows how it works. A €1,000 SICAP grant, a €15,000 Acorn Term Loan, a donated Massato massage chair worth €12,000 and income from fee-paying corporate wellness services came together around one clear ambition. The donation reduced how much it needed to borrow, and its earned income supports repayments. View More

Every established community organisation started somewhere. Acorn is often the first step in a longer relationship with Clann Credo.
